Disney Chief Technology Officer Aaron LaBerge to depart company due to personal circumstances

As part of our commitment to providing you with the latest and most relevant business news, we wanted to share this exclusive update about Aaron LaBerge, the chief technology officer for Disney Entertainment and ESPN, who is set to leave the company. According to an internal memo, LaBerge will be taking on the role of CTO at PENN Entertainment, which operates ESPN Bet, the sports media company’s licensed online sportsbook.

LaBerge’s departure comes at a crucial time for Disney, as he has been instrumental in the development of Disney’s streaming services and the integration of advertising into Disney+. He has also played a key role in unifying Hulu and Disney+ within a single streaming application, which was recently launched.

His influence extends beyond Disney, as LaBerge has been a central figure in the development of ESPN’s streaming services, including ESPN+ and the upcoming sports streaming application co-owned by Disney, Warner Bros. Discovery, and Fox.

This news adds to a growing list of veteran Disney executives who have left the company in recent years, including former CEO Bob Chapek and former head of streaming Kevin Mayer. However, LaBerge’s departure is not expected to disrupt Disney’s operations, as a search for his successor is already underway.

We want to express our gratitude to Aaron for his contributions to Disney over the past 20 years. His leadership and vision have been invaluable in shaping the company’s technology strategy and creating amazing consumer experiences with entertainment and sports content.

As we navigate this transition, we are confident in the capabilities of Chris Lawson, Disney’s executive vice president of content operations, who will take over LaBerge’s responsibilities on an interim basis.
