NEAR Establishes Infrastructure Committee with $4 Million in Funding

At Extreme Investor Network, we are excited to share the latest news from the NEAR Foundation regarding the launch of their Infrastructure Committee. This initiative includes a $4 million investment to enhance Key Infrastructure, promote decentralized decision-making, and streamline efforts within the NEAR ecosystem. With half of the budget still available, there are ample opportunities for the community to get involved and propose innovative infrastructure projects.

NEAR Protocol has seen a surge in users and transactions in recent months, prompting the need for a dedicated Infrastructure Committee to ensure the smooth operation and expansion of projects and founders. Key Infrastructure components such as RPC nodes, relayers, indexers, bridges, wallets, load balancers, and oracles are vital for the proper functioning of the ecosystem and integration with DEX tools.

The Infrastructure Committee has already funded five critical infrastructure proposals, including projects like the implementation of Jutsu IDE infrastructure, FASTNEAR infrastructure services, support services for the Aurora Web 3.0 Wallet, a Treasury App for governing committees, and an audit of Ledger integrations. Additionally, the committee is actively managing existing projects like Aurora RPC SpeedUp and MyNEARWallet maintenance by Meteor.

With a substantial portion of the $4 million budget still available, the committee is calling on community members, including founders, developers, and NEAR enthusiasts, to contribute their ideas and proposals. Some suggested projects include faster RPC nodes, new bridges for cross-chain transactions, ICANN-compliant DNS, and expansion of top-level domains, among others.

To ensure transparency and public engagement, the committee has established clear processes for tracking and discussing proposals openly. Community members can view public tracking documents, participate in discussions, and stay informed about Requests for Proposals (RFPs). Meeting notes will also be shared with the community to maintain transparency.

As NEAR continues to grow, the Infrastructure Committee is working on introducing more sophisticated incident management systems, post-mortem processes for infrastructure outages, and a Blockchain Operating System (BOS)-based app for proposal management to enhance funding efficiency.

The committee’s efforts will support NEAR’s growth and chain abstraction initiatives, ensuring the blockchain can handle the anticipated increase in traffic as the ecosystem expands. For those interested in getting involved, the Working Group Discussion on GitHub is a great place to collaborate, discuss proposals, and ask questions.

In conclusion, NEAR Protocol’s Infrastructure Committee with $4 million in funding showcases their dedication to strengthening the core infrastructure and supporting the success of NEAR projects. With opportunities for community engagement and innovation in infrastructure projects, NEAR is set for further growth and scalability.
