Market Discussion – April 22, 2024

**Asia:**

In Asia, the major stock markets had a mixed day today. The NIKKEI 225 increased by 1.00% to 37,438.61, while the Shanghai market decreased by -0.67% to 3,044.60. The Hang Seng saw an increase of 1.77% to 16,511.69, and the ASX 200 increased by 1.08% to 7,649.20. The currency markets in Asia had a positive day, with the AUDUSD increasing by 0.33% to 0.64380, the NZDUSD increasing by 0.36% to 0.59080, the USDJPY increasing by 0.09% to 154.774, and the USDCNY increasing by 0.03% to 7.25210.

**Europe/EMEA:**

In Europe, the major stock markets had a green day today. The CAC 40 increased by 0.22% to 8,040.36, the FTSE 100 increased by 1.62% to 8,023.87, and the DAX 30 increased by 0.70% to 17.860.80. The currency markets in Europe had a mixed day, with the EURUSD decreasing by -0.12% to 1.06433, the GBPUSD decreasing by -0.26% to 1.23362, and the USDCHF increasing by 0.21% to 0.91230.

**US/Americas:**

In the US, the market closings showed positive results. The Dow advanced by 0.67% to 38,239.98, the S&P 500 advanced by 0.87% to 5,010.6, the Nasdaq advanced by 1.11% to 15,451.31, and the Russell 2000 advanced by 1.02% to 1,967.47. In Canada, the TSX Composite advanced by 0.3% to 21,871.96, and the TSX 60 advanced by 0.45% to 1,313.41. In Brazil, the Bovespa advanced by 0.35% to 125,556.35.

**Energy:**

The oil markets had a mixed day, with Crude Oil decreasing by -0.18% to 82.076 and Brent decreasing by -0.27% to 87.052. Natural gas saw an increase of 1.56% to 1.7865, and gasoline decreased by -0.86% to 2.6870. Top commodity gainers included Canola, Oat, Rapeseed, and Nickel, while top commodity losers included Coffee, Cocoa, Gold, and Silver.

**Bonds:**

In the bond market, we saw movements in various countries. The US 2’s had a slight decrease, while the US 10’s, US 30’s, and Bunds experienced minor fluctuations. Countries like Italy, Turkey, and Greece saw more significant changes in their bond yields.
