Introducing the Fisker Ocean Recall: What You Need to Know
Here at Extreme Investor Network, we strive to bring you the latest and most relevant business news that impacts investors like you. Today, we have some exclusive information on the recent recall announced by electric vehicle startup Fisker.
Fisker recently announced a recall of thousands of Ocean SUVs in North America and Europe due to safety and compliance issues with vehicle software. The affected vehicles potentially had issues with the Motor Control Unit and Vehicle Control Unit software, which could lead to a loss of motor power. In addition, some vehicles did not comply with federal safety standards related to gauges and display icons.
The company assured that vehicles updated to OS 2.1 are not impacted by the recall and that an over-the-air software update will be rolled out to address the issues. Fisker aims to complete the software update process by June 30, 2024.
This recall comes after a series of setbacks for Fisker, including reports that the company may not be able to continue due to high interest rates impacting demand. Additionally, talks for a potential deal with a large automaker collapsed, and the company’s shares faced delisting from the New York Stock Exchange.
In April, the U.S. auto safety regulator opened an investigation into the 2023 Ocean following complaints about doors failing to open. This marked the third probe into Fisker, with previous investigations related to brake issues and unintended vehicle movement.
Despite these challenges, Fisker reported delivering 4,929 Oceans in 2023 and aims to deliver between 20,000 and 22,000 vehicles in 2024. The company has informed its dealers of the recall and will notify owners by June 30.
