Joey Chestnut Dominates in Plant-Based Partnership

Title: Breaking News: Joey Chestnut Dropped from Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog-Eating Contest

As we gear up for the annual Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July hot dog eating contest, there has been a major shakeup in the competitive eating world. Major League Eating (MLE) announced that they will be parting ways with 16-time champion Joey “Jaws” Chestnut ahead of this year’s competition.

According to a source familiar with the matter, Chestnut was offered a $1.2 million, four-year contract by MLE to participate in the hot dog competition. However, the relationship came to an end after Chestnut decided to represent a rival brand that sells plant-based hot dogs, reportedly Impossible Foods.

Impossible Foods offers plant-based hot dogs that are touted to be healthier and more eco-friendly than traditional meat versions. With half the saturated fat and 84% less greenhouse gas emissions, the company is making waves in the industry.

While Chestnut is a beloved champion in Coney Island and around the world, MLE President Richard Shea expressed hope that he would reconsider his choice to promote a veggie hot dog over the traditional Nathan’s Famous hot dog. The organization even worked with Nathan’s to accommodate Chestnut’s requests, including allowing him to compete in a rival unbranded hot dog eating contest on Labor Day.

The Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest is a longstanding Fourth of July tradition broadcast nationally on ESPN. It not only serves as a celebration of Independence Day but also as a marketing strategy for Nathan’s Famous, whose signature offering, the hot dog, has been facing a decline in sales due to the changing consumer preferences towards healthier options.
