Welcome to Extreme Investor Network, where we bring you exclusive insights and unique information on the latest trends in business news. Today, we’ll be diving into the world of Jeff Bezos and his recent investments in artificial intelligence through his family office, Bezos Expeditions.
While Bezos has made headlines for his extravagant purchases, such as multi-million dollar properties and a half-billion dollar yacht, his focus on AI investments is what truly stands out. According to data provided by FINTRX, all of the investments made by Bezos Expeditions this year have been in artificial intelligence, totaling over $1 billion.
In January, Bezos invested in the Series B round of Perplexity AI and followed it up with a $63 million investment in April. The value of his initial investment had already doubled by then, as Perplexity AI’s valuation soared to between $2.5 billion and $3 billion. In February, Bezos’ family office invested in Figure AI, a humanoid-robot company, and later in July, he participated in a $300 million Series A round of Skild AI.
Bezos’ dedication to AI investments comes as no surprise, considering that 70% of his family office investments are in technology. AI is now the favorite investment category for family offices, with more than three quarters planning to invest in AI in the next few years, according to the UBS Global Family Office Report.
Amazon, the company Bezos founded, is also heavily investing in AI, with plans to invest over $100 billion in data centers over the next decade. Bezos himself recently filed a stock-sale plan to unload $5 billion worth of Amazon shares, giving him even more capital to bet on the AI boom.
