Today, we are excited to share with you the latest updates from Ethereum’s All Core Developers Consensus Call #145, held on October 31, 2024. This call focused on updates for Pectra Devnet, PeerDAS, and a new EIP proposal, showcasing the continuous development efforts within the Ethereum ecosystem.

During the call, EF DevOps Engineer Barnabas Busa provided insights into the updates for Pectra Devnet 4. With no major issues reported, the devnet saw all client teams successfully proposing blocks. A new public testnet, Mekong, based on Pectra Devnet 4 specifications, has been launched with 110 nodes and around 100,000 active validators. This testnet will serve as a platform for testing new network features over the coming months.

Preparations for Pectra Devnet 5 were also discussed, with several pull requests highlighting enhancements to simplify processes and improve compatibility. The PeerDAS Devnet Updates included the shutdown of PeerDAS Devnet 3, pending further investigation by the Prysm team. Future PeerDAS devnets are on hold until after the upcoming Ethereum developer conference, Devcon.

A notable highlight from the call was the introduction of a new EIP proposal by Lucas Saldanha of Consensys. EIP 7800 aims to allow validators to update their withdrawal credentials without the need to exit. This proposal introduces a new execution request type, ‘0x03’, enabling credential updates via smart contracts, setting the stage for future considerations within the Ethereum ecosystem.
