Shoppers select Nike as preferred retailer over Kohls

Welcome to the Extreme Investor Network blog, where we bring you unique insights into the world of business news. Today, we’re diving into a recent consumer sentiment survey that sheds light on how companies like Nike and Kohl’s are faring in the eyes of consumers, despite their struggles on Wall Street.

According to the Consumer Sentiment Index from consulting firm AlixPartners, Nike has been ranked as the top active footwear retailer across all generational cohorts, beating out competitors like Adidas and Foot Locker. Similarly, Kohl’s has emerged as the preferred department store choice for Gen Z and boomers, while millennials have shown a preference for Nordstrom.

What’s interesting is that these rankings come at a time when both Nike and Kohl’s are facing challenges in terms of sales performance. Nike, for instance, is projecting a decline in sales for the quarter, while Kohl’s is expecting a drop in sales for the fiscal year. Despite these setbacks, the survey results indicate that consumers still view these brands favorably.

Sonia Lapinsky, head of AlixPartners’ global fashion practice, highlights the importance of understanding consumer preferences and quickly addressing any issues that may arise. For Nike, the focus is on innovation and product development, while Kohl’s has won consumers over with competitive pricing.

The survey also uncovered key insights for retailers heading into the holiday shopping season, with the majority of consumers stating that product availability is a major factor in their shopping decisions. This presents a challenge for retailers who have expanded their online assortments but struggle to maintain consistent inventory levels in-store.

To navigate this inventory tightrope, retailers can leverage AI and advanced analytics to forecast consumer demand and optimize inventory placement. This not only ensures that customers find what they’re looking for but also drives increased foot traffic and sales in-store.
