Welcome to Extreme Investor Network, where we bring you the latest insights and analysis on all things business and finance. Today, we’re diving into a topic that is set to shape the financial landscape in the next 10 years – the $84 trillion Great Wealth Transfer.
A recent study has revealed that Generation X is poised to be the biggest beneficiaries of this wealth transfer. While millennials and Gen Z are often discussed as the primary recipients of inheritances from baby boomers, it is actually Gen Xers who are expected to receive the largest windfalls in the near term. With the average age of individuals set to inherit fortunes from parents worth $5 million or more at 46.1 years old, Gen X is in a prime position to unlock significant wealth.
The study also highlights that the wealth potential for Generation X has been largely overlooked in discussions about inheritances. Wealth management firms and private banks have been focusing on younger potential clients, but they should also start considering the needs and preferences of Gen Xers, who are likely to inherit substantial sums from their parents.
In the next 10 years, 1.2 million individuals worth $5 million or more will pass down a total of over $31 trillion in wealth. The ultra-wealthy, defined as those worth $30 million or more, will account for nearly two thirds of this amount, with billionaires passing down about $5 trillion. This concentration of wealth at the top underscores the importance of understanding the values and priorities of the next generation of inheritors.
According to the report, the next generation of investors are more tech-savvy, environmentally conscious, and globally minded. They are likely to focus on new technologies, clean energy initiatives, and impact investing, which may not always align with the existing business structures or legacy plans of those transferring their fortunes.
